The Volcano is great, but the people make Tanna a truly magical experience.

The people are Melanesians whose ancestors arrived on this tiny island some 3000 years ago. Tannese people are friendly and shy at the same time. They are money-poor but resource rich. They have a multitude of jobs - gardening, fishing, and taking care of social obligations. Although very few are "employed" everyone is busy. Virtually every visitor leaves Tanna feeling good about the people they met.
You can have lots of great experiences on Tanna.

Trekking is still the dominant form of transport and people walk everywhere along paths that have existed for thousands of years. Many of these are suitable for horse-back riding. You can, rent horses and guides on Tanna and go exploring along mountain jungle passes, past waterfalls and coffee plantations, and ride on the extensive beaches.

There is also great swimming and surfing along the southeastern beaches of Tanna. Take a whole day and stroll for miles along the coastline, stopping to soak a bit in the crystal clear waters. There are even places where volcanic hot springs come out right on the beach and you can swim in hot and cold water.
The coral reefs are perfect for snorkeling and diving and during the months of August through December you can watch many different species of whales swimming just off the fringing reef. Then come the big sea turtles to crawl up on the Tanna beaches.
One of the very best experiences is to visit a custom tanna village and see the ancient forms of dance and ceremony of this fascinating culture.
Come and holiday in Tanna, Vanuatu.
